Just east of Main Street lies a covered ramp and stairway system to access Middletown’s Harbor Park. The dark and unwelcoming pedestrian tunnel connects the town to the river, otherwise cut off by the Route 9 highway. The TunnelVision project seeks to activate this space, make it more inviting, and educate pedestrians as they commute to the Connecticut Riverfront. The collaborative project combines works from local artists with mosaics from community events. As one walks lower into the ground, the mosaics cover everything from the trash under our feet to colonization, to the glacial period, to the formation of the Earth’s crust.

My internship position involved making a digital scale model of the space and documenting and inserting the existing mosaics into the model. The animations and renders I made using this model serve to help apply for additional funding. I was also tasked with making and engraving ceramic mosaic tiles and building a new website for the project.
